Miami Beach '10)) who was second in sacks, Frank Brown (RB, 6-0, 225, SO, Ridgecrest (Burroughs '11)) who was the Marauders second leading rusher and scored seven touchdowns and Mike Smith (DB, 6-3, 205, FR, Lancaster (Antelope Valley '07))who led AVC with four interceptions.

2012 SCHEDULE

The Marauders move back into the American Conference, Pacific Division beginning this season, where they won two titles in their two years there - 2008 and 2009. It's familiar Territory (but not familiar). It really wouldn't have been that tough for the schedulers to just go back to the old American Pacific schedules, but they decided to make it tough. There is only one change in the American Pacific - switch Glendale for East LA. The America Pacific line-up is now AVC, Glendale, LA Southwest, LA Valley, Pierce, Santa Barbara, Santa Monica and West LA. So except for Glendale, which AVC last saw in 2006, pretty much familiar faces. So it became a question of the three non-conference opponents. At first look, you see AVC travels to former Foothill Conference foe San Bernardino Valley to open the season and you might say "No Canyons" as COC has been the Marauders' opening game for the last four years. Then you see AVC has a second week bye. Well, this changes an awful lot. It gets back to normal when AVC opens at home against Chaffey, which the Marauders have the longest continuous rivalry at 26 straight years then starts the conference play at home against Glendale the next week. Then it gets funky again. The bye week for 95 percent of teams is Oct. 6. For the Marauders it was on Sept. 8. So who does AVC play in the "bye week?" Canyons. AVC hosts the Cougars on that Saturday. And in the final bit of uniqueness - AVC will play their first Friday game since 1995 when they played Mesa in Mesa, AZ. Santa Barbara City has set their game with AVC for Fri., Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.

Sat., Sept. 1 - @San Bernardino Valley, 6 p.m.
Sat., Sept. 15 - Chaffey, 7 p.m.
Sat., Sept. 22 - Glendale, 7 p.m.
Sat., Sept. 29 - @*LA Valley, 6 p.m.
Sat., Oct. 6 - Canyons, 7 p.m.
Fri., Oct. 12 - @*Santa Barbara City, 7 p.m.
Sat., Oct. 20 - *West LA, 7 p.m.
Sat., Oct. 27 - @*Pierce, 7 p.m.
Sat., Nov. 3 - @*LA Southwest, TBD
Sat., Nov. 10 - *Santa Monica, 7 p.m.

COACHING STAFF

The Marauder football program has made some changes both in personnel and positions. Gone are offensive line coach Wade Peterson as well as assistant coach Joe Watts who stepped away after 26 seasons. That leaves Mike Martinez in his 23rd season as the Marauders' elder statement on the staff and he will be moving back to the offensive line from the defensive line. Also returning to assist head coach Perry Jehlicka are Dameon Porter (2nd season, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks, Rodger Jehlicka (2nd season, strong safeties) and JJ Holtfreter (5th season, slot wide receivers and running backs), Geoff Satterfield (8th season, defensive coordinator and linebackers) and Jerome Wright (3rd season, wide receivers). Chad Shrout returns after six years and will become the special teams coordinator in his fourth year with AVC, while Robert Watts, Joe's son, is the only truly new addition to the staff, and will coach the defensive line.

THE HEAD COACH

Perry Jehlicka (pronounced Jah-leck-ah), who in 14 years as a football coach, has had more than a hand in turning around losing football programs, probably did his most spectacular work in 2008, turning a team with 26 losses into a team that was a yard away from a perfect 10-0 season. But again in 2008 and 2009, Jehlicka led the Marauders to an American Pacific Division title. For his efforts, Jehlicka, who is 26-26 as a head coach was named American Pacific Coach of the Year in 2008 and 2009.
