TORRANCE - Maryah Tatum and Samantha Tago advanced to the second round of the Western Conference individual team playoffs, Wednesday afternoon in Torrance hosted by El Camino College.

Tatum and Tago had no problems in the first set defeating the team of McKenna Baameur and Karlee Cornford of Bakersfield College, 21-9. Baameur and Cornford made thinsg interesting in the second set, but Tatum and Tago were able to hold them off winning the second, 21-19.

"It's actually really exciting knowing that we are going to play in the second round. Knowing we are the only team to represent AVC makes me want to win even more," Tago said. "I want to do my best for those who couldn't make it to the next round of playoffs. I have high expectations going against Pierce."

Tatum and Tago will now face the duo of 6-foot-1 Valentina Krivokapic and partner 6-foot Megan Weaver on Friday afternoon. Krivokapic and Weaver defeated Rio Hondo College's pair of Haley Brownwood and Gabrielle Cruz, 21-15, 19-21, 16-14.

"I'm expecting a tough match and we just have to play our game," Tago said. "We expect a lot of hard driven balls at us."
