AVC MEN'S SOCCER WINS SERIES WITH GLENDALE

AVC MEN'S SOCCER WINS SERIES WITH GLENDALE
Today was Game #6 in the WSC conference and the start of round 2.  AVC came in confident versus Glendale understanding a win was imperative to stay in the hunt for a conference championship.  The Maurader's Men's soccer team is in the program's 3rd year of existence (2016) and have been battling this season to keep that opportunity tangible.  Coming off a win at Victor Valley and (2-1-2) 1st round start, AVC needed a win today to keep the top 4 teams close.  The first 15 minutes of the match saw Glendale playing direct to their forwards and AVC winning possession and connecting passes in transition.  The Mauraders got on the scoreboard first from a free kick 30 yards out in (20:00) which Dylan Gonzalez scored from a direct kick by Sebastyan Enriquez.  That lead didn't last long though as Glendale had an opportunity 5 minutes later (25:00) which a shot attempt from a set piece was blocked from a hand ball yielding a red card and penalty kick which was converted and equalized the game.
At half the game was 1-1 and possession appeared to shift towards Glendale as AVC was playing the remaining portion of the game with 10 players due to the infraction.  However, post half time speech the Mauraders came out strong in the 2nd half and 11 minutes in (66:00) scored the go ahead goal by Cameron Taylor from an assist by Christopher Cortez.  Glendale had a sudden burst of motivation in attempt to equalize the game once again but 8 minutes later (74:00) with a man down scored once again by Cameron Taylor from an assist by Joseph Perez to seal the game.  " My hat is off to our guys for not panicking while playing a man short and being able to execute the adjusting tactics communicated at half-time, a sign of maturation within our squad ", stated Head Soccer Coach Jerry Stupar.  Shot chart was won 11-8 by AVC and Matt Garcia had a stellar game in the net grabbing 7 saves / 1 GA / 90 minutes for the win.  The Mauraders overall record is now (7-5-4) and (3-1-2) in conference , and currently trail first place by two points.
