With the Mauraders in only their third year of existence, an opportunity to be in the running for a conference championship has been very exciting for the program. A team with a heavy Freshman roster consisting of 9 of the 11 starters through most of the season along with the leading goal scorer in the WSC South: Cameron Taylor ( 16 goals / 4 assists = 36 points ), the team's focus and work ethic seem to peak at the right time.
AVC had to win at College of the Canyons in order for that opportunity to be tangible, the program Stupar came from and the Mauraders biggest rival. In the 88th minute Cameron Taylor kept that dream alive by scoring in the final minutes and requiring an additional match to determine the WSC South Champion between Canyons and AVC.
The Mauraders concluded their conference season at home with a 6-1 win versus Victor Valley which then needed a tie or loss for Canyons at Bakersfield to clinch the Championship.
In the first round Bakersfield won 2-0 at Coc and has only lost one conference match at home all season ( versus AVC 3-1 ). However, a 12th minute penalty kick goal for Canyons prooved to be the 1-0 game winner at Baker in a tough fought battle which hosted a shot chart of 22-8 in favor of Bakersfield. The result secured Canyons the conference championship and the final standings:
