AVC Softball standout Briana Garrett has committed to play for the University at Albany Great Danes in Albany, New York. The Pitcher/Utility player out of Quartz Hill High School competed in 61 games over two seasons with the Marauders.
While Garrett totaled 57 hits, 33 RBI, and four home runs at the plate, her most significant contribution to the Marauders was her dominance in the circle. She pitched in 266 innings over 48 games and accumulated a 30-11 record. Garret struck out 357 batters and finished her AVC career with a 1.52 ERA. In her freshman season, she was instrumental in leading the Marauders to a perfect 14-0 conference record and a WSC Conference title. She threw 280 strikeouts with 26 wins that year, including a record-breaking back-to-back perfect games against Bakersfield and Bartow in March. Garrett was second in the state in strikeouts with 128 at the time and earned Western State Conference's Pitcher of The Year Award. Briana also received the California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association's Pitcher of the Week Award in February.
The Great Danes compete in the NCAA's Division I America East Conference. They went 26-17 last season and are under the leadership of head coach Chris Cannata who is currently in her 27th season. Cannata is a five-time America East Conference Coach of the Year and the winningest head coach in UAlbany softball history.
"Bri's goal since stepping foot on our campus has been to get back to the Division 1 level. It's so great to see her accomplish that goal. I am so happy for her and can't wait to see her compete at the next level." said Marauder head coach Cindy Vargas.
Garrett intends to make an immediate influence with the Great Danes.
