LANCASTER - In its quest for a consecutive conference championship, the Marauder women's basketball team had no trouble with the conference opener as it easily defeated Barstow with a 66-52 victory over the visiting Vikings Saturday at Marauder Gymnasium.

It was a much needed win for the Marauders as they have struggled of late, entering the game having lost three of their last four games.

Shantanel Bivens came off the bench to score 21 points and pull down 14 rebounds. On the season she is averaging 13 points and 13 rebounds. Her 13 rebounds per game rank her seventh in the state in that category. Kianna Cross came off the bench as well and scored 14 points, including four 3-pointers. Deja Smith finished with 13 points, five rebounds and five assists.

The Marauders led 19-12 after the first quarter and extended their lead to 39-24 at halftime. AVC's defense held the Vikings to a bleak 31 percent shooting from the field.
