VICTORVILLE - The Marauder women's tennis team opened conference play in impressive fashion as it had no problems with host Victor Valley College, 6-0, Thursday afternoon.

Brianna Maldonado needed one break of serve in the first set to win the first set against Jo Watson, 6-4. Maldonado took the second set easily, 6-0.

The closest match of the afternoon was AVC's (1-1) No. 4 Cornett Wright and Victor Valley's Lorene Conners. Wright dropped the first set 6-7 (3-7), but rallied to win the next in a 10-8 thriller. Wright took that momentum into the third set tie break and won 10-5.
