CASE OF NERVES DOESN'T BOTHER WILSON AT PRELIMS

CASE OF NERVES DOESN'T BOTHER WILSON AT PRELIMS

LANCASTER - Angela Wilson said she was very nervous prior to her heat in the 800 meters, Saturday afternoon at the Southern California Regional prelims at Antelope Valley College.

"I felt good, but I was really nervous because it was a home meet and I was over thinking everything," Wilson said.

Not to worry.

Wilson ran a personal best time of 2:15.64 and cruised to an easy victory in her heat moving her in to next week's finals at Antelope Valley College.

"It was nice to watch the first heat and that kind of calmed some of my nerves," she said. "Whether I felt ready or not, deep down I knew I was prepared for this. I'm very pleased with the race. I want to enjoy this moment, but pretty soon it will get to me."

Wilson should expect some stiff competition from two runners from West LA College, Doshawn Franks and N'Finity Lindley. Franks has run the best time in southern California this year (2:12.90). She won her heat in 2:23.30. Lindley, who Wilson has defeated several times this season, finished second behind Wilson (2:20.81). Crystal Tejeda of Riverside had the third fastest time of the day (2:22.35).

Brittani Wynn finished ninth in the shot put (35.24m) and 13th in the hammer throw (40.06m). Wynn moves on to the finals next week in the shot put and missed moving on in the hammer by one spot.
