WILSON RUNS PERSONAL BEST IN 800, ADVANCES TO STATE MEET

LANCASTER - Before each race Marauder standout Angela Wilson gets really nervous.

Not sure why, she is undefeated in her event all season.

Still when Wilson got on the track Saturday afternoon at the Southern California Championships at Antelope Valley College, all the nerves went away, her most dominant race of the season propelled her into the state meet next week at San Diego Mesa College.

Wilson got out to a good start and built a nice 20-meter lead and cruised to an easy victory in the finals of the 800 meters with a blistering time of 2:13.16, more than two seconds faster than her previous personal best of 2:15.64, which she ran last week in the prelims on the same track.

"I didn't know what was going to happen because the other top two girls last week were in different heats. So I didn't know how they were going to perform and I don't like the unknown," Wilson said. "I thought they were going to come up on me so when I hit that bell lap, I knew I had to go."

Only one other girl this season has run faster than Wilson, Doshawn Franks of West LA College. Wilson blew Franks away as she finished the race in third place at 2:18.11.

Wilson is the only women's athlete that will compete next week at the state meet.
