Antelope Valley College Baseball fell to College of the Canyons 1-2 in their last regular-season series. Although the Marauders finished the regular season with a better overall record (25-14), the series loss pushed the team into a three-way tie for 3rd place with Bakersfield and Canyons at 11-10 in the conference, and ultimately out of playoff contention.
The Marauders started the series with a strong 17-6 road win, but lost a close home battle 8-6, before losing game 3, 12-5 at Canyons.
Jayden Steinhurst (2) and Drew Watkins homered in game 1. Watkins had a team-high 8 RBI, going 8-for-13 on the series, while Elias Frainier batted in 4 runs off 5 hits.
Armando Saucedo and Connor Baughman had 4 hits each, and Jacob Baxter and Cody Rollings had 3 hits each. The Marauders totaled 28 runs off 35 hits with 4 errors in the series.
Aidan Morgan (3.1 IP, 5 Ks) and Camden Clark (4.2 IP, 4 Ks) split most of the pitching duties in the Game 1 win, while Zachary Stevens (2.2 IP, 3 Ks), Jacob Draper (2.2 IP, 2 Ks), and Jacob Maldonado (2.1 IP, 2 Ks) split most of Game 2. Ashton Fitzpatrick pitched 6 innings with 3 strikeouts in Game 3's loss.
Drew Watkins finished the regular season leading the 3C2A in RBI with 66. Jayden Steinhurst ranked 4th in the state with 58, followed closely by Elias Frainier with 57. Steinhurst hit a team-high 7 home runs on the season.
Ashton Fitzpatrick closed out the season with a team-leading 6 wins and tied with Drew Lueders for the second-most strikeouts at 49. Aidan Morgan led the team in strikeouts with 67, while Jacob Maldonado had the team's lowest ERA at 2.34 among pitchers who threw over 30 innings on the season.
As a team, AVC led the 3C2A in hits with 521 and in RBI at 420 to finish the season.
