Antelope Valley College Football marched into Glendale and outplayed the Vaqueros for a 38-27 win on Saturday.
Glendale grabbed the momentum early, scoring the only points in the 1st quarter and the first points in the 2nd quarter for a 13-0 lead. AVC responded in the 2nd quarter with an 11-play 72-yard drive resulting in a 2-yard touchdown run from Daste Lee.
The Vaqueros scored again to take a 20-7 lead with just under 6:00 minutes left in the half. The Marauders bounced back on the ensuing kickoff with a 90-yard touchdown return by Damario Jackson. AVC's defense held strong for the rest of the half, giving the offense a chance to score again before the break. The Marauders took full advantage with a late 10-play drive to end the half on a 2-yard TD run from Dakota Foster.
AVC led 21-20 at the break and never trailed again. They added to the lead with their first drive out of the locker room, as Naim Bankhead converted a 10-yard run for a touchdown, his third of the season. The Vaqueros pulled within a point with a third-quarter touchdown, but the Marauder defense made sure it was their last score of the game.
AVC's offense wasn't done yet, as Daste Lee would reach the endzone for the second time with a 1-yard run. Lucas Bailey converted the extra point to polish off the 14-play, 84-yard drive. Bailey was a perfect 5-for-5 on extra points and added a 35-yard field goal to make it a two-possession game with just under 4:00 minutes to play.
After the field goal, AVC's Sahmon Smith recovered a fumble forced by Victor Aldape to seal the game. Jayden Carrillo led the Marauder defense with 7 tackles. Taron Smith had a 9-yard sack, while Houston Brown had 3 tackles, including one for a loss.
