Antelope Valley College Men's Basketball outlasted College of the Canyons 68-64 at home in their first WSC match-up of the season. AVC edged the COC in total field goal percentage, 37.9% to 34.8%, and in rebounds, 44 to 39. The Marauders also shot 62.5% from the free-throw line, sinking 20 of 32 attempts, while the Cougars shot 55.6%, making 10 of 18.
Mister Burnside and Ripine Vagaia shared the team-high in points with 16 apiece. Burnside also added 7 rebounds and 3 assists, while Vagaia had 8 rebounds. Amado Coleman had a game-high 18 rebounds to go along with 12 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Coleman leads the Marauders in rebounds on the season with 147, averaging 10.5 a game. The 6'5 freshman guard/forward from Paraclete High School is also averaging a team-high points on the season with 18.9.
Trovary Cavil added 15 points and a team-high 4 assists, Rahjon Chambers added 6 points, and Max Riley added 6 rebounds off the bench.
AVC is 1-0 in conference and 8-6 overall. They travel to Citrus College before returning home to face Bakersfield College on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 5:00 pm.
