Antelope Valley College Men's Basketball snapped a 4-game losing streak with a 74-59 win over Santa Monica College. It was their second win over the Western State Conference opponent Corsairs this season.
Amado Coleman led the Marauder offensive attack with a double-double, scoring a game-high 22 points with 10 rebounds. Mister Burnside followed closely with a double-double of his own, scoring 21 points with 15 rebounds. Coleman ranks inside the top-5 in four statistical categories in the conference: field goal percentage (1st - 65.1%), rebounds per game (2nd - 9.0), points per game (4th - 18.0), and steals (52). Burnside ranks 5th in points per game (17.8) and rebounds per game (7.5).
Freshman Trovary Cavil added 15 points and recorded a game-high 7 assists. The 6-foot guard from Des Moines, IA, ranks 2nd in the Western State South Conference in assists with 109 on the season.
Izzy Harrington, also a freshman (Coronado High / Las Vegas, NV), added 11 points and 4 rebounds off the bench for the Marauders, while Max Riley grabbed 9 rebounds.
Antelope Valley outshot Santa Monica 43.5% to 32.3%, and outrebounded the Corsairs 47-36.
AVC is 7-5 in conference and 14-12 overall. With postseason hopes still alive, the Marauders have two games left in the regular season. They are on the road against Gledale, before returning home to face LA Valley on Friday, Feb. 20th at 5:00 pm.
