The 21st-seeded Marauders were on the road against the 11th-seeded Eagles on Wednesday.
Both teams came out strong, exchanging baskets over the first 10 minutes of play, but AVC seized control of the game with 12:11 to play in the first half when Mister Burnside made a jump shot to give the Marauders a 23-22 lead. AVC extended their lead to 54-33 by halftime.
The Eagles made a push midway through the second half and cut the lead to 64-54 with 10:24 left to play. But the Marauders continued to play solid defense and executed offensively behind Amado Coleman's 20 second-half points. Coleman scored a game-high 33 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
Mister Burnside had a double-double of his own with 26 points and 10 rebounds. The Sophomore guard from Paraclete High School also had a game-high 5 assists. Trovary Cavil scored 12 points and dished out 4 assists.
AVC totaled 20 points off the bench, with Izzy Harrington scoring 9 points, while AJ Duke and Max Riley scored 5 points each.
The Marauders shot over 60% from the field while holding the Eagles to under 43% shooting. AVC also held the edge in 3-point shooting (43% - 30%) and free-throw shooting (79% - 62%). Antelope Valley outplayed Mt. San Jacinto just about every facet of the game, including rebounds (36-26), assists (19-16), turnovers (9-11), points in the paint (50-28), and steals (6-4).
Antelope Valley advanced to the second round of the Regional Tournament and will travel to the #6 seed Santiago Canyon on Saturday. Tipoff is at 7:00 pm.
