Antelope Valley College Men's Golf began Western State Conference play at Oakmont CC, hosted by Glendale College.
The team battled hard on a very challenging course with narrow fairways and firm/fast greens, resulting in an overall high scoring average of 83 on the day. AVC finished with a team score of 346, for 7th place, ahead of Allan Hancock College.
The Marauder lineup included five freshmen and one returning sophomore, and was led by Tayden Ramos at 84. Ramos was coming off a top 5 finish at La Purisima, where he carded a 74. Although he was disappointed with his performance, starting off the round with two doubles and a triple, he showed resiliency, finishing 2 over on the last 14 holes.
Cody Breuklander followed closely behind Ramos with an 85. Bradley King scored 88, and Jonah Grado recorded an 89.
"While the score wasn't what we were hoping for, I was proud of the guys for staying mentally tough through a difficult track... we will use this as a learning experience as we prepare for our next round," commented head coach Brad Hazard.
Due to expected inclement weather, the Feb. 16 round in Santa Barbara has been rescheduled to Mar. 16. The Marauders will next travel to Victoria Country Club for the Riverside College Invitational on Feb. 23.
