MEN'S SOCCER OPENS CONFERENCE PLAY WITH A WIN OVER CANYONS

Antelope Valley College Men's Soccer began Western State Conference South play with a 1-0 win over College of the Canyons.

Matthew Renteria scored the game's only goal in the 30:00 minute of the contest with an assist from Hugo Santana. Santana ranks 3rd in the WSC in assists with 6.

AVC totaled 12 shots on goal, with Renteria accounting for 6 of them. Angel Montes De Oca, Adrian Mota, and Angel Magana had 2 shots each, while Israel Aguilar, Kaleb Stokes, and Angel Mota recorded one shot each.

Goalie Oscar Flores had 4 saves for the Marauders and ranks 2nd in the conference in saves with 50.

AVC improves to 4-6-2 (1-0 in conference) with the win and will play at Bakersfield before returning home to face Santa Monica on Friday, Oct. 17 at 11:00 am.
