SOFTBALL WINS OPENING SERIES 2-0 AGAINST TAFT

Marauder Softball outlasted the Taft Cougars 6-5 in game one and 16-2 in game two of their season-opening series on Tuesday.

Down 3-5 in the final inning of game one,  Savannah Moakley tripled to score Hailey Johnson, and Ariel Nieto singled to score Moakley and bring the score to a 5-5 tie. Amy Manzo then hit the go-ahead RBI single to score Nieto and take the win. 

Moakley and Nieto both went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Alexa Alvarez went 2-for4 and Mycaela Chavez went 2-for-3.

In the circle, Bailey Damian had six strikeouts in just over two innings, while Arianna Arroyo pitched two innings with three strikeouts.

Antelope Valley's offense picked up steam in game two's decisive 5-inning victory (16-2).

Ariel Nieto led the way going 2-for-3 with eight runs batted in, giving her 10 RBIs on the day. Both Maritza Arroyo and Trinity Holman had three hits in three at-bats, while Nayely Delgado went 1-for-3 with three RBI and Hailey Johnson went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI.

Savannah Moakley scored three runs and went 1-for-1 with three walks. Amy Manzo also had a hit with an RBI. 

Maritza Arroyo (3 innings) and Arianna Arroyo (1 inning) struck out two batters each in the circle. 

The Marauders will take on Mt. San Antonio College on Tuesday, April 27, before facing Bakersfield on Thursday, April 29.
