Bio

Coach Barry Green’s tenure at Antelope Valley College is a story of steady leadership, longevity, and unwavering dedication to student-athlete development. Now in his 16th season as head coach of the Marauders women’s basketball program, he stepped into the role during the 2010–11 season and quickly began shaping a culture built on discipline and competitive excellence.

Over the years, Coach Green has built a program rooted in consistency and competitive excellence. His leadership reached a milestone in 2017 when he guided the Marauders to a Western State Conference title—a season that also earned him WSC Coach of the Year honors. It was a moment that reflected not only a successful campaign, but the steady culture he had been cultivating.

Under his guidance, the Marauders have become a consistent postseason presence, earning eight CCCWBCA State playoff berths while producing multiple Western State Conference Players of the Year and 32 All-Conference selections. At the heart of Green’s coaching philosophy is a commitment that extends far beyond wins and losses. Alongside his staff, he has built the Marauder program around preparing student-athletes for the full college experience—academically, athletically, and mentally. His approach emphasizes discipline, accountability, and personal growth, ensuring that his athletes leave the program equipped for success in all areas of life.

Green’s connection to AVC spans nearly three decades. Entering his 27th season overall with the Marauders, he previously spent 18 seasons contributing as a men’s assistant coach, gaining valuable experience and insight that would later shape his success as a head coach. His coaching roots also include a formative stint at CSU Bakersfield, where he served as a graduate assistant.

Before he ever paced the sidelines, Barry Green made his mark as a dynamic and accomplished multisport athlete. At Merced High School, his impact was unmistakable—earning team MVP honors, capturing Central California Conference MVP recognition, and ultimately being inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 2011. Whether on the hardwood, the football field, or the baseball diamond, Green competed with a drive and versatility that set him apart.

He carried that competitive spirit into his collegiate career, beginning at Columbia College in Sonora, where his play earned him honorable-mention All-Conference recognition. From there, he elevated his game at Eastern Montana, growing into a dominant presence over three seasons. By his senior year, Green had emerged as both a leader and standout performer—earning first-team All-Great Northwest Conference honors and the distinction of team MVP. His junior campaign had already hinted at that trajectory, as he secured second-team All-Conference recognition.

Alongside his athletic success, Green remained committed to his academic pursuits, earning his Bachelor of Science in physical education from Eastern Montana. He later continued that journey at Azusa Pacific University, where he completed his master’s degree, further preparing himself for a lifelong career dedicated to athletics, education, and mentorship.

Across every stop in his career, Barry Green has remained dedicated to the craft of coaching and the development of young athletes. His legacy is not only measured in championships and accolades, but in the lives he has influenced and the standards he continues to set within the Marauder program.
