In doubles play #1, Luna Mendez and Ariana Valiente lost 4-8. #2 doubles Caroline Given and Janaya Medina took an early 5-2 lead, then fell behind 6-5, before rallying to win 9-7. At #3 Doubles, Ryaniah Graves and Isabella Elliott also saw an early lead slip away before prevailing 9-8 (7).
In singles play, #1 Mendez won 6-1, 6-2, #2 Valiente lost 1-6, 2-6, and #3 Given won 6-2, 6-0. The winning singles continued with #4 Medina winning 6-1, 6-1, #5 Graves winning 6-1, 6-3, and #6 Elliott winning 6-1, 7-5.
"Great start to the season... we found a way to win. We want to eliminate the dips, but when we have them, we know we can come back," said head coach Justin Webb.
After the Rio Hondo win, the Marauders fell 9-0 to Riverside in their home opener and 8-1 on the road to Mt. San Jacinto. "We have a young team that is adapting to playing college tennis... we will continue to improve and focus on what we need to do to produce positive results," added Webb.
The Marauders will next face Porterville College on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 11:00 AM.
