Bio
Amos Wellington is a seasoned educator and athletics leader with more than 28 years of experience in teaching, mentoring, curriculum development, and student support. Currently serving as a Physical Education Instructor at Lancaster High School in the Antelope Valley Union High School District (AVUHSD), he has taught across multiple district sites, including Desert Winds High School and Eastside High School, where he delivered high-impact, standards-aligned instruction in both health and physical education.
Mr. Wellington's career reflects a deep commitment to personalized, student-centered learning and fostering resilience in diverse student populations. He has held numerous leadership roles, including Vice President of the School Site Council, Behavioral Science Department Chair, and member of the AVUHSD Health Curriculum Augmentation Committee, where he aligned district health standards with state mandates and 21st-century skills. His expertise extends to athletics, serving as an adjunct faculty member, head cross country coach, and assistant track coach at Antelope Valley College, as well as a long-standing NCAA football official and CIF Master Assessor.
Holding an Administrative Services Credential, a Master's in Physical Education, and multiple professional certifications, Amos is also active in professional organizations such as the National Alliance of Black School Educators and the California Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. Guided by a philosophy of equity, accountability, and holistic student development, he continues to champion programs that integrate academic rigor, athletic excellence, and personal growth.
Coach Wellington is on his second stint with the Antelope Valley College Marauders Cross Country and Track & Field programs. His first term at AVC began in the spring of 2018 and continued through Spring of 2022. Wellington served as assistant track and field coach throughout those five seasons and also spent two years as head cross country coach.
He returns in 2025 to his assistant role, this time leading the distance crew year-round.
Coach Wellington and his lovely wife, Tiffany, have been married since 1999 and have children: Grace, 22; Katie, 20; and Blake, 18, a student at Antelope Valley College. Both Grace and Katie are AVC alumni.
