MARAUDERS WIN GAME 2, SWEEP CYPRESS AT REGIONALS
Antelope Valley totaled 16 runs off 26 hits in the sweep and will move on to the Round 2 Super Regionals.
Antelope Valley Softball won Game 2 of their matchup against Cypress College to clinch a 2-0 series win in the opening round of the 3C2A SoCal Regional playoffs. The two wins mark the first time AVC has beaten Cypress in the program's history, including the two losses to the Chargers earlier in the season.
The Marauders (#9) took advantage of perfect softball weather with no wind to continue their impressive offensive power in the 9-1 (6 innings) win over the Chargers (#8). After collecting 13 hits, including 2 home runs in still conditions in Game 1, the Marauders picked up right where they left off, pounding out another 13 hits in Game 2.
Sophomore Marley Delgado led the charge, going 2-for-3 with 3 RBI, including a double. Jeannette Camarena and Hartley Lundquist each had 2 RBI and 2 hits, including a pair of doubles on the day, while Analise Memory and freshman Kenzie Martinez both logged a hit and an RBI.
All-State and Western State Conference-South MVP Jordyn Zinn and All-State, 1st Team All-Coference Kaylei Victoria each had 2 hits in the contest.
Defensively, starter Lucy Navarro was efficient, pitching 4.0 innings and recording 3 strikeouts, while All-State and WSC Conference Pitcher of the Year Hailey Davis sealed the win, throwing 2.0 innings with 1 strikeout in relief. Davis also recorded a hit in her only at-bat of the game. The Marauders played error-free while forcing 3 errors on the Chargers.
Antelope Valley totaled 16 runs off 26 hits in the sweep and will move on to the Round 2 Super Regionals at Palomar on 5/8 and 5/9.
"Words cannot express how proud I am of this team. They showed heart, confidence, and belief in one another as they took down the winningest program in Cal JC softball history," commented head coach Cindy Vargas. "I'm excited and grateful for the opportunity to keep this journey going, and I look forward to taking on the next round with this incredible group. God is good."
