Antelope Valley College Women's Basketball cruised past College of the Canyons in a 78-41 home win. The Marauders shot just over 40% from the field while holding the Cougars to under 26% shooting in the WSC conference opener. AVC shot over 30% from the 3-point line and outrebounded COC 48 - 36, while the defense recorded 18 steals and caused 29 turnovers.
Ariana Soil scored a game-high 16 points with 6 steals and 3 assists. The Freshman guard from Antelope Valley High School leads the Western State Conference-South in steals (58) and assists (61) on the season. Brianna Samarion recorded a game-high 13 rebounds with 9 points, while Keyilla Barnes had 14 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals, and 4 assists. Shaniya Sinclair recorded her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Off the bench, Maddie Martin scored 9 points, and Blessing McBride had 7 points and 6 rebounds.
The Marauders are 1-0 in conference and 6-9 overall. They are on the road at Citrus College, before returning home to face Bakersfield on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 7:00 pm.
