Antelope Valley College Women's Basketball let a win slip away in a close battle against Bakersfield College. The Marauders fought hard, but eventually came up short 55-52 in the WSC Conference matchup.
AVC held a 7-point lead (43-50) with 4:59 left in the 4th quarter, but scored only two points from that point on. Defensively, the Marauders weren't able to stop the Renegades as Bakersfield took the lead with just over a minute left to play.
Antelope Valley held the advantage in points in the paint and off the bench, but was outrebounded and shot a lower percentage from the field, three-pointers, and free throws. AVC had fewer turnovers (8-10), but both teams scored 10 points off turnovers.
Ariana Soil led all scores with 21 points. She also had 7 rebounds and a game-high 4 steals. Freshman Brianna Samarion scored 7 points and had a team-high 9 rebounds, while Mya Colquitt had 6 points.
Shaniya Sinclair grabbed 7 rebounds and scored 4 points, while Maddie Martin scored 5 points and Keyilla Barnes recorded 6 points off the bench.
The Marauders are now 6-11 and 1-2 in conference. After road stops at West LA and Santa Monica, they'll face Glendale at home on Jan. 24 at 5:00 pm.
